Traditional Sabacc
Traditional Sabacc is played using a 76-card deck and a pair of spike dice.
Sabacc Variants & Resources
Sabacc is, by far, the most popular game at Horizons Cantina - and is arguably the most popular in the entire galaxy. Despite this widespread popularity, Sabacc can be confusing for new players due to the number of variants (it's really more like a set of similar games than variants of one) and the fact that local house rules can further change any given variant significantly. We have curated resources here to help as you begin to navigate the complex ecosystem and subculture of this deceptively simple set of games.
Many of the resources and images (and some of the language) below are provided by generous members of the Outer Rim Sabacc League, along with our friends Mike and Emily at Hyperspace Props, which is our preferred vendor for all things related to galactic gaming.
Force Sabacc
Corellian Spike
Coruscant Shift
Kessel Sabacc
Force Sabacc is played with any traditional 76-card Sabacc deck, but is a different game that completely omits the dice and the shift phase.
Corellian Spike was popularized when a toymaker at Black Spire Outpost on Batuu began printing and selling a mass-market version of the game. In this fast-paced and high-stakes variant, players aim to create a hand with the closest value to zero using a combination of positive and negative cards. It requires a 62-card deck and pair of spike dice.
Coruscant Shift first became popular on a galactic starcruiser hailing from Chandrila called the Halcyon. It is played using a 62-card, three-suit deck, along with a special pair of dice specific to this variant. The target value changes each round based on a roll of the dice.
Kessel Sabacc is played with a 44-card deck that is split into two separate piles ("families") of cards. Hands are comprised of two cards - one from each family. A special card called The Impostor is used in this variant, along with tax chips (instead of credits) and a set of Kessel tokens that can be used by players to throw a wrench into the gears.
Jedi Temple
Jedi Temple is a Pyramid Solitaire game played with a 62-card Corellian Spike Sabacc deck like the ones sold at Black Spire Outpost. It also requires a pair of spike dice. The goal is to remove all the cards in the pyramid. Cards are removed by combining them together to form a value of zero. New cards are revealed as discarded cards are removed.
